As we approach the 42nd anniversary of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, I wanted to share one of the greatest articles on the subject by Daily Kos member dsteffan, “How regulation came to be: The Rehabilitation Act of 1973.” Unlike most articles I’ve come across, he manages to weave a fantastic essay of the difficult history that people with disabilities have had to endure. It’s honest and critical, and it’s a poignant reminder of how far we’ve come in accessibility. It also serves as a foundation for the work we still have in front of us. I’m glad to be involved in a small part of the history that occurred as a result of a mere amendment some 25 years later.
